Exploring Qatar: South

Once again we were ready to head off on some driving adventures in Qatar.  We headed out with GPS coordinates to an area known as the "singing sand dunes".   Apparently when you slide down the dunes they make a singing sound.  With the help of the GPS this spot was actually really easy to find.  We hopped out of the car and started playing on the dunes. I can say that they do "sing" although it sounds more like an UFO landing than a song.  The climb to the top was quite a work-out.

When we were sufficiently sandy, we decided to drive farther south into more desert area where lots of people go desert camping.  As you can see in the pictures, they ride 4-wheelers and dune buggies and spend lots of time out camping.  We would love to join them one day but feel like we need someone who knows what they are doing to help get us started.  We didn't DO a whole lot on this day except for sight-see out of the car windows.  It was fun to see real sand dunes though!
* If you look closely at the first picture below, the 4-wheeler on the right is wearing a thobe :)

We finished off another fun day of exploring with lunch at Chili's and then washing the cars at home.
