3 Thanksgivings & a Baby Shower

First I have to say that living in the Middle East has made me realize even more how thankful I am to be an American.  It's the everyday freedoms that I miss the most: drive a car, open a bank account w/o a man, stores open at normal hours w/o prayer time, dress the way I want, try clothes on in the store, have women working in the stores, etc.  I'm so thankful for all the men and women that have fought and are fighting to keep our freedoms in the United States.


Now on to Thanksgiving in Saudi Arabia...


Micah and I basically had 3 different nights of Thanksgiving dinner.  Our first night was at the American Business Association where the dinner was catered.  The caterer is British so there was somewhat of a British flair to this dinner but overall it was descent.  We enjoyed some fun time with friends and even took a little quiz to see how much we knew.  Sorry I didn't take pictures at this event.


Our second Thanksgiving celebration was actually on Thanksgiving night.  Sadly, Micah had to work during the day but happily he was able to come home early.  We then headed to our friends Matt & Cherie's place and had a great dinner with our Saudi family.  There was even football playing on the tv!  After dinner was all done the guys decided to play a few games while the girls talked and sorta watched "White Christmas".   Overall, it was a great Thanksgiving #2.

Our 3rd Thanksgiving was with our weekly Friday group.  We typically do a pot-luck style lunch but for Thanksgiving we decided to do a more specific lunch.  We had 3 turkeys, tons of potatoes, desserts, and lots of excellent food.  Our group seemed to have a lot of fun and good fellowship. 

  

Now for the baby shower.... The shower was for Lindsey and baby Miles.  We were very excited to be able to throw Lindsey a shower before most of the families went home for Christmas.  However, the whole day of the shower Miles was threatening to make an early appearance (Lindsey was having contractions).  But in the end we made it through the shower and had a great time.  It was such a blessing to see have so many ladies around ready to celebrate and support Lindsey and their future addition to the family.  We had great food, plenty of laughs, and wonderful gifts. 

Micah and I are off to Australia for 2 weeks.  I will post when we return.
